Since I fried my PC keyboard a few days ago, I've been stuck using my iMac's keyboard on the PC. That being said, I'm unable to take screen shots. ;_;
Anyway.. This will be my first, official, post regarding my Goldsmithing experiences, in FFXIV. Here we go;
Yesterday, I actually started my goldsmithing crafting. I eventually found everything I needed to know on the Eorzea wiki (Thank you for existing!) I went from Rank 1 to Rank 4 Goldsmither, within a short period. Mind you, I was utilizing an overpriced recipe, which was just silly of me. I bought 12 Copper Nuggets and 12 Copper Rings, and built myself Copper Wristlets.
Here's the breakdown;
Copper Wristlets;
| Crafts: Crystals: Earth Shard x 6 |
| Yield: NQ: Copper Wristlet x 1HQ 1: Copper Wristlet +1 x 1 |
That being said, I feel that in hindsight there were a lot easier crafts I could've taken advantage of, especially for low-levelling. Regardless, it was a nice learning experience, and I got to try and make a high quality item (which failed, of course!) I was also introduced to the crafting system, which I think is pretty unique. I'll explain more about my opinions, and my observations regarding the mechanics, in another post.
So. Rank 1 to Rank 4 was pretty simple, pretty cheap, and fun getting into. Rank 4 ~ Rank 9 was also very simple, and almost the same price!
For Rank 4 ~ Rank 7, I'd decided to go with a cheaper recipe that I could simply NPC away. Rank Point Fodder, y'know? Instead of opting for the Copper Wristlet, I'd decided on making...
Copper Fish Hook;
Crafts: |
| Yield: NQ: Copper Fish Hook x 12 |
I know that there's not an actual recipe level on the synthesis, yet, but I had absolutely zero issues with this craft from ranks 4 thru 7. On top of that, the synth is ridiculously cheap, and can be farmed from an NPC (At least, in Gridania.) To be honest, I should've hit this synth straight from rank 1! Although, at Rank 9, it's starting to lose it's fizzle.. I haven't tried much else, though, so I'm not quite sure, as of yet, if there's another decently cheap synth with a better turnout rate for points that is also very easy to acquire.
And, for the finale~ Rank 7 ~ Rank 9 was pretty simple, that required more running around than I'd have liked. I'd decided to use some Local Levequests to attain that last little bit of Rank Points that I could squeeze out for the day. But, since I currently have Zero Anima, I'm left running quite a ways for silly quests~
Levequesting seems to be a pretty good way to do an amount of stuff;
- Learn new recipes, and even get a test-run with, Recipe Vs. Rank.
- Explore! Crafting, outside of levequesting, can be stuffy while you're stuck in town!
- Earn extra Rank & Experience points; more than you would per normal synth.
- Earn Guild Marks (I've overheard that post Rank 20 local leve's will award Guild Marks. This is unverified by myself, though..)
- Earn Crafting Materials! I've earned some neat stuff, even in the first four local leve's that I did today. Mainly, Silver Ingots! Huhwheeee~
While I was crafting my fish hooks, I'd notice that the success of a standard synthesis would succeed with zero durability loss (Most Times, not 'always.') That being said, I also noticed while crafting items for Levequests, that only extremely rarely would durability go unaffected through a successful standard synthesis. Coincidence? Probably, but I'm just giving my two cents.
Anyways, I used 4 levequests, and crafted with the extra materials (if there were any left over) to get those few extra synths in for the extra Rank & Experience points! Worked well, and now I'm half way through Rank 9. ...Our adventure has just begun!
Edit: I have to make a new table for recipe's, rather than copy/pasting from the wiki site. - -'
